History of Umag

The region around Umag was already inhabited in prehistoric times: the oldest traces date back to the Bronze Age. In was an important town of Histria, known for its port and salt pans. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Histria came under the rule of the Ostrogothic Kingdom, and later the Byzantine Empire. 

Umag has changed many governments during its existence, but finally since 1991. it has been part of Croatia.
